My name is Leigh Wax. I'm a Wildlife & Nature Photographer residing in Windsor, Florida, near Gainesville.
My interest in local nature was inspired by the writings of Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings, who's original homestead, in near-by Cross Creek, remains much as she left it.
Relocating to Florida from the "North", Marjorie was so captivated by the raw splendor of her new surroundings, that she studied the features, habits, and sounds of the wild creatures; shapes, colors and hues of seasonal wild flowers; and with her gift of expression, “painted” “word pictures” of them, woven throughout her many tales of the area. Sadly, much of the wild and natural Florida that she was witness to is rapidly "giving way" to the impact of increasing human population
As a Volunteer for the Florida Park Service, I make frequent visits, camera in hand, to nearby, and surrounding area parks which, thankfully, strive to preserve the original beauty and diversity of Florida's by-gone days.
I strive to capture images that reflect the spirit of Marjorie's Cross Creek experience.
